It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend drummer Jean-marie Corrois for your upcoming jazz festival. He is a versatile, supremely-talented percussionist who draws deeply from all rhythms of the world – with a crisp style and passion for synergy and invention.

Though I have worked as a television journalist for almost two decades, I am also professionally trained as a vocalist. Jean-marie joined my jazz/pop band made up of veteran musicians earlier this year. He immediately became the glue we were seeking to hold together our repertoire with a steady but stylish rhythm – demonstrating an impressive command of all musical styles from jazz and latin to pop/rock. He has an amazing ability to wow with complicated fills or explode with powerful solos, but also to pull back when necessary — always conveying the emotion and dynamics of the given song.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Jean-marie perform in a live jazz instrumental setting as well, and he once again shined with his playing and his presence. I am thankful to have discovered a drummer of his caliber and I know you will feel the same.

Please accept this letter of recommendation on my behalf for drummer and percussionist Jean-marie Corrois.

My name is Anita Coelho Diabate, I am a producer and the founder of Medici Musica Productions, a production company that books performances in and around the New England area. It is through this business that I have had the opportunity to work with Mr. Corrois. I have been producing World Music and Jazz in New England for nearly 10 years. I have heard Mr. Corrois perform several times and we have several occassions in which we were able to work together producing concerts for Mr. Corrois’ own project at Ryles Jazz Club, where I produce a weekly concert series.

I can say that in the case of Jean-marie Corrois, his ability to evoke emotion through his music and that of his interpretation of others’ compositions makes him a valued asset to the music community here in the United States. He has an amazing way of playing that bring his compositions to life, not only in a live performance but in recorded material as well. To hear Jean-marie is always something special to look forward to as he continually brings his music to us with a new direction. To see him perform is a true pleasure and as the leader of his project, he pushes for new heights, which in turn has his fellow musicians perform at a much higher level as he truly inspires not only his ensemble, but his audience at large.

I highly recommend without hesitation Jean-marie Corrois for your consideration. He is a unique talent and should be granted the access to this country’s educational and business resources with respect to music performance, recording and teaching so that he may continue to inspire and collaborate within the music community of the United States.

Please reach me at the contact information above for any further information if desired.

Sincerely Yours,

Anita Coelho Diabate

The JMC Quartet is a true experience. Jean-Marie Corrois and his talented jazz musicians are a pleasure to work with, and they play beautiful jazz music. With each number, the band seemed to connect with the audience to create a remarkable vibe. During their show, viewers commented that they felt as if they were at a trendy Parisian nightclub. I agreed and cannot wait for them to host another event with us.

Jazz in the Square in Boston has been bringing in fine jazz bands from across eastern Massachusetts for our monthly concerts for seven years. I mostly have hired bands where I knew one or more of the musicians, but when I listened to a couple songs from the website linked to in an email sent to me by Jean-Marie Corrois promoting his band, the JMC Quartet, I decided to bring in this group that I had no previous knowledge of.

I made the right decision. Between my and the band’s promotion we had a good turnout. The concert was superb, with a mix of Jean-marie’s originals, many of which had a compelling African influence, and a number of pieces by European composers that don’t usually get much (any) play in Boston.

The crowd was very enthusiastic throughout the evening. Several people mentioned to me that they thought this was the best band we had ever had; one of them was the leader of one of the bands that has played for us!

I highly recommend the JMC Quartet.

For Jazz in the Square

I recently had the very good fortune to attend a show by the JMC Quartet at the Jazz in the Square series in Roslindale, MA. These guys sound like they’ve been playing together for years! A terrific, tight quartet, anchored by drummer Jean-marie Corrois, with bassist Keala Kaumeheiwa, pianist Gilson Schachnik and saxophonist Bill vint, set the tone for a solid night of jazz -paying tribute along the way to various composers and musicians. Swing, post bop, beautiful ballads and good old fashioned hard core jazz all come to mind when hearing the music. Seamless trading of solos, together with the overall musicianship of each player made for a memorable time. Go see these guys!
